About Me – Fr om the Roots of the Himalayas

Namaste! I’m Rajan (data is hidden), Founder and Managing Director of Local Trekking & Adventure Company in Nepal, and a professional trekking and tour guide with over 17 years of hands-on experience.

I was born in a small Himalayan village, wh ere walking mountain trails was simply part of everyday life. At 15, I came to Kathmandu in search of a career and found myself working as a porter on the famous Langtang Valley Trek. Carrying 35 kg over rugged trails for hours a day was not easy—but it sparked a lifelong passion. I learned English, became a government-licensed guide in 2009, and have since led countless treks and tours across Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and India, including life-changing journeys like Everest Base Camp, Upper Mustang, Annapurna Circuit, and the sacred Kailash Manasarovar Yatra.

From humble beginnings to guiding on some of the world’s highest trails, I’ve experienced every route I offer—walking beside travelers, sharing campfires, and understanding exactly what they need for an unforgettable adventure. I come from the very roots of this business, and I carry that authenticity into every journey we create.

Through my company, my mission is to offer personalized, high-quality, and ethical Himalayan adventures—combining physical challenge with cultural depth—for travelers from all over the world. For me, the Himalayas aren’t just a destination—they’re my home, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

About the tour: it was perfect!! very good
About the tour: Great tracking! January 8, 2026 were the only ones to reach Everest Base Camp that day!
Travel expert's answer: Dear Edward, Namaste from Nepal! Thank you so much for your kind review! I’m thrilled to hear that you were able to reach Everest Base Camp on January 8, 2026—it’s such a special achievement, especially having the place almost to yourselves that day. It was a pleasure organizing and guiding your trek. Your words about our team mean a lot to us. We wish you all the best as well and hope to welcome you back to Nepal for another adventure in the future! Warm regards, Rajan Read more
About the tour: Great trip, it was between December 02-17, 2025. I've been to Nepal for the second time, having previously visited the track around Annapurna with another travel agency
An absolutely wonderful sightseeing day in Kathmandu - we visited key places, saw stupas, Hindu shrines and places where the dead were burned, saw Kumari, the guide talked in a very interesting way about cultural characteristics and traditions
The tour was as comfortable as possible with guide Tula and a wonderful porter. The guide talked about the mountains and the countryside, confidently led along the trails at an adequate pace with stops/breaks (I was a little behind on the ascent, but then it became normal) Both the guide and the porter were very polite, open, took care of us, asked us about our well-being, and brought us fruit for dinner (especially great after a heavy and high-calorie Nepalese diet food), recommended lodge meals In the evenings, we sometimes had fun playing cards, teaching each other local variations of card games
The views are absolutely indescribable, with every turn on the way up, the ice and stone peaks are getting closer and closer. It is very difficult to convey the emotions of the majesty of the mountains, I think those who go there will understand me. In December, the track is completely empty, there are almost no tourists, there were rarely more than 10 people in the lodges. 17:00 to 21:00 (approximately), and the sleeping bag and under the blanket are very warm and cozy
The tour was organized according to the program, except when we did not go to Kala Pattar due to my companion's symptoms of mountain sickness - this decision, in my opinion, was fully justified (and shows maximum concern for the safety of the tour participants), given that it would not be possible to get high in winter because of the ice
I rented trekking sticks included in the tour price (my houses are no better anyway, I didn't see the point in driving it), a down jacket and a -20C sleeping bag - local quality equipment is enough for trekking purposes, I never froze at night (I slept after 3500+ in thermal underwear, fleece, socks and sleeping bag, a blanket on top and cozy)
On the way, we met lots of birds, including Tibetan ulars, monals, bushes and more, as well as Himalayan tars and cute local rodents hiding in the rocks
Locals and lodge owners are very helpful and communicative
Rajan greeted us upon arrival and also had a delicious and cozy final gala dinner with us - a very cheerful and positive person whom I thank for the excellent organization of the tour

P S My fitness bracelet told me that we walked 195 km over the track, gaining a total of 8425 meters of height on the way back and forth (remember that the road is hilly and you gain and lose more altitude in a day than your total relative gain per day)
I was a little concerned about mountain sickness in the range of 4300 to 5000 meters (headache, citramon managed), but after problems with symptoms of mountain sickness, I didn't have problems with symptoms of mountain sickness

My expectations from the tour were fully met, and if (I hope!) I'm going to Nepal again and I'll be happy to contact Rajan and his team again to arrange a trip

Travel expert's answer: Hello Catherine, Namaste from Nepal! Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review! I’m thrilled to hear that your Everest Base Camp trek in December 2025 was such an unforgettable experience. It’s wonderful that Tula, your porter, and the team could make the trek comfortable, safe, and enjoyable while sharing local knowledge and fun moments along the way. I’m glad that the winter conditions, accommodations, and rented gear all worked well for you, and that you were able to enjoy the incredible scenery, wildlife, and quiet beauty of the Himalayas. Your safety and comfort are always our top priorities, so it was important to make the right decisions regarding Kala Patthar and altitude management. It was a pleasure meeting you and hosting the final celebratory dinner—sharing these moments with our guests is one of the most rewarding parts of our work. Your detailed feedback about the trek and the winter experience is very valuable for us and other travelers. We would be delighted to welcome you back to Nepal for another adventure! Warm regards, Rajan Read more
