South Ossetia excursions and expeditions are always full of positive emotions and unforgettable experiences. The infrastructure is excellent for a comfortable holiday all year round even though it's not the most popular tourist spot.

Mountainous Country's Natural Attractions

Hiking on mountain trails away from the noise of megacities and the hustle of the city awaits fans of pure air, gorgeous natural scenery, and hospitable people. South Ossetia's must-sees:

  • In the valley of the river Ksan, the volcanic highlands of Keli have extinct volcanoes and lakes. It's one of the most picturesque places in the highlands.
  • Khalatsa Mountain. It means frosty top in Ossetian. The peak is always covered in snow, so that matches reality.
  • Lake Erzo and in the Kudar Gorge. This mysterious highland area has beautiful waterfalls surrounded by unspoiled nature.

Obviously, South Ossetia has lots of interesting original natural attractions. Alanya's centuries-old traditions and friendly people are enough to show you the beauty and uniqueness of the city.

Children's Recreation And Sports

There's a lot of tourism infrastructure being built in South Ossetia right now. Tourists come here to improve their health at Nagutni Spa, where they can strengthen their nervous system and cardiovascular system. Peace of mind is guaranteed thanks to the unique natural scenery. Organizing children's and youth recreation is a priority in the country. South Ossetia has new summer camps for kids, pupils, and students.

Architectural monuments

The excursions to architectural sights in the country, of which there are more than a thousand, are useful and informative for anyone who appreciates historical monuments. These ancient temples and historical monuments are worth checking out:

  • Zyldy Masyg or lost Ossetia. First Alanian colonists found a serious defensive structure when they arrived in the country. Today, there's just cyclic stone walls without mortar. There's nothing left of the western part, it's crumbled into a cliff.
  • The Christian community at Tigua. Tamara, the daughter of King David, built a church that became a model for the Georgian Canon during the XII century. When the Soviets attacked the religious communities, this monument miraculously survived.
  • Tiri Monastery. Located in the village of Monastery, this is an example of Orthodox South Ossetian culture. The castle was built in the 12th century on land belonging to Georgian feudal lord Kandelaki. The believers used it as a defensive structure against Muslims, Horde, and Tamerlane's troops.
  • Dome temple of XII century in Ikort. There was a cult building between two small mountains. This is a gorgeous example of Georgian, Ossetian, and Armenian architecture.

During a tour in South Ossetia, you hike on well-trodden trails among passes and peaks, where you can literally touch the clouds. Visiting the locals, eating the unique food, and hanging out with good people will be a bonus.
