Ideas for a Morocco trip in winter or spring

Some travelers call Morocco an oriental tale in the most European part of Africa. Here you can easily find the very «flavor» for which people go to countries with an Arab past – mosques of various sizes, cozy narrow streets, noisy merchants at every turn, deserts and legendary cities.

The good news is you don't need a visa if you plan to stay in Morocco for less than 90 days. These days you’ll need a negative COVID-19 test, issued no later than 48 hours prior to arrival, and a hotel booking. Winters in Morocco are perfect for leisurely sightseeing without large crowds – the average temperature is + 15°C. The water is cool, so you won't be able to go for a swim, but instead you can enjoy the quiet streets without thick layers of clothes.

Go to Morocco in winter for a peaceful Casablanca, a ski resort in the Atlas Mountains and fearless surfing. Spring in Morocco isn’t as crowdless as it is the start of the beach season. In April the orange trees are in bloom and the temperature reaches + 25°C. We’ve put together a few ideas for Morocco trips fr om January to April. Try not to postpone the trip too much, who knows what other travel restrictions 2021 will bring.

January

1. The mazes of the streets of Fez

The oldest imperial city in Morocco that once attracted scholars and philosophers, mathematicians and astronomers, is known for its Fes El Bali walled medina with medieval Marinid architecture. The city has the most authentic craft districts and narrow streets. In Fez you can wander all day long, enjoy fragrant tajins, study mosques and experience the flavor of the East.

2. Ski resorts

Ski resorts are another thing worth going to Morocco for in winter – where else in Africa can you go skiing and snowboarding? There are two alpine resorts: Uykameden and Ifran. The first is located at lower altitudes and offers trails for both beginners and professionals, while the second is more suitable for beginner skiers, but is located at an altitude of 4,000 meters. Nearby there is a picturesque national park with cute monkeys.

3. Peaceful Casablanca

In summer this city, glorified in classic films, is full of life, and in winter you can enjoy the quiet of the city. Casablanca is not the easiest city to live in, but it is the ideal connecting point for most travelers in Morocco. The most interesting areas are Habus, where all the mosques and cathedrals are, and Anfa with its almost European harmony.

Everyone who comes to Morocco visits Marrakesh, so try to avoid the peak season. Finding yourself on the wide Djema el-Fna square at the fakir performance or walking in the Menara gardens, you will feel the breath of the East. It will follow you to the Bahia Palace and the Al-Koutoubiya Mosque. Trust your feelings: Morocco will make you fall in love.

April

1. Chefchaouen's blue walls

It is the most insragrammable place in Morocco. The blue city really is completely blue – its wall, streets, even the ground underneath your feet are blue. This color is either a tribute to Jewish traditions, or a symbol of peace, but it is the monochromaticity of the city that makes it so attractive to tourists.

2. Rock climbing

The skiing season ends in April, and the mountains become a great place to conquer gorges and climb steep cliffs in full climbing gear. Walking along the gorges – for example, along the Todra – is an excellent way to bring diversity to your tour.
