A mountain with many secrets and legends!

One of the most technically simple five-thousanders and yes, this is not Armenia, it is Turkey! Perhaps it is from this peak that you should start getting acquainted with the height, and with the mountains in general.

We don't promise to find Noah's Ark, but trying to climb to the top is our task, which we have been doing for more than 7 years!

Itinerary

Start: April 20th, 18:00 (local time), Van

Finish: April 27th, 13:00 (local time), Van

Claim brochure in PDF
Day 1. g. Van — city. Dogubayazit (1950m)

We meet at Van Airport before 18:00. (as early as possible and collectively). We take a minibus to Dogubayazit, the journey takes about 3 hours. We check into the hotel, get to know each other, brief the program guide, analyze questions, check clothes and equipment. Overnight at the hotel.

transfer 180km/overnight stay 1950m

Day 2. Dogubayazit city — Eli village (2200m) — Camp 1 (3200m)

Waking up early. Departure from the hotel, transfer to Eli village (2200 m) at the foot of Ararat. Loading equipment, personal cargo and kitchen onto mules, moving to Camp 1 (“Green Camp”), at an altitude of 3,200 m. The transition will take approximately 4-5 hours with a snack (sandwich, fruit, sweet, juice). Let's go light with assault backpacks.

After arriving at the camp, we'll have a snack and tea waiting for us. A little rest. Setting up the camp by guides, acclimatization exit above the camp. A hot dinner in the evening.

transfer 25km/walking 7km/1000m climb /overnight stay 3200m

Day 3. Camp 1 (3200m) — Camp 2 (4200m) — Camp 1 (32

After spending the night in Camp 1, we will go on an acclimatization trip to Camp 2, located at an altitude of 4,200 meters. We will make the exit light, taking only what is necessary - clothes for insulation, a snack and a drink. The solution is simple, however, quite lengthy — we will go up for about four hours and about one and a half or two hours down. Once you get to Camp 2, you'll need to spend some time here, getting used to the altitude and adapting. Then we'll go down to Camp 1 and spend another night there.

6km/1000m walk climb/1000m altitude reset/3200m overnight altitude

Day 4. Camp 1 (3200m) — Camp 2 (4200m)

Today we will need to set up an assault camp before climbing. We pack our things, load them on mules and go up to Camp 2 on full alert along the route of yesterday's acclimatization exit. Having reached the sites at an altitude of 4,200 meters, we will set up an assault camp and spend the afternoon relaxing before climbing.

Day 5. Climbing to the top of Ararat (5165 m)

Usually, the trip to the top starts at 2:00 — 3:00 a.m. We get up an hour before we leave. Light breakfast. The ascent to the mountain goes along a rocky path along a scree slope. Snow and ice start from a height of 4900 meters, so then we go in cats. The target time to reach the summit is 12 noon. The top offers amazing views of the surrounding area. Joy, congratulations, smiles, hugs, but still a hard way down, we don't relax. The average ascent time is 5-6 hours, the descent is 3-4 hours. After a short rest in the second camp, we descend to the first camp (3200 m) for the night.

Day 6. Reserve day

Like any mountain, the weather here is bad, but we want to make the most of the opportunities for climbing, so we plan a reserve day for bad weather.

Day 7. Camp 1 (3200m) — Eli village — Dogubayazit city

We say goodbye to Ararat, pack up the camp and go down to the foot, where we will be transferred to Dogubayazit. We check into the hotel, wake up, have lunch at a cafe and go on an excursion to explore the sooooo interesting and colorful Iskhak Pasha Palace.

And in the evening we will have a festive dinner with a Kurdish family!

Day 8. Dogubayazit city — Van city

Morning preparations and departure to Van. This is the end of our program, but you can stay and take a walk in this city on your own (especially if the reserve day is not used). There is plenty to see here, including Lake Van and Van's famous cats.

You can plan plane tickets from Van after 1 pm.

And of course, on the way back, you should spend at least a couple of days in Istanbul (on your own). The mosques of Hagia Sophia, Suleymaniye, the Blue Mosque, the Bosphorus ferry ride, and the Egyptian market are just a small part of Turkey's “must have” and Istanbul in particular.

One of the most technically simple five-thousanders, perhaps it is from this peak that you should start getting acquainted with the height, and with the mountains in general.
